SACRED MUSIC AT ST. THOMAS AQUINAS

At St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Sacred Music serves as a profound vehicle for worship during the 10 AM Mass. Embracing a rich tradition, Three ensembles, the Newman Choir, St. Thomas Aquinas Chamber Choir, and St. Gregory the Great Schola Cantorum uplift the congregation with the timeless beauty of Gregorian Chant, sourced from the 1836 Liber Usalis, the 2002 Graduale Romanum, and a repertoire brimming with masterpieces by revered composers such as Palestrina, William Byrd, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, J.S. Bach, and more. These ensembles are often accompanied by two instrumental ensembles, the St. Cecilia String Orchestra and Newman Brass.

The revitalization of Sacred Music in the Sacred Liturgy of the Roman Rite holds immense importance at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. Situated in the heart of Nebraska, and the Diocese of Lincoln, the choirs of St. Thomas have found a particular calling to continue to bring back the timeless musical treasures and texts that the Church contains. The parish continues to foster a sense of continuity with centuries of worship practices in the Sacred Liturgy. Furthermore, the transcendent power of these musical compositions enriches the Mass, creating an atmosphere conducive to prayer, contemplation, and reverence. Through this revitalization, the parish reaffirms the timeless significance of Sacred Music in nourishing the Dear Faithful and elevating their encounter with Our Lord, in the Sacred Liturgy and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
